The Summer Solstice may have already passed us by, but there are still plenty of long summer nights ahead and where better to spend them than your own outdoor space? Outside spaces differ much more than rooms in the house and are very much dependent on where you live: North or South Hemisphere, in the city or out in the country.

You may have a couple of acres and a pool or you may have a tiny balcony high up on the 22nd floor. No matter the size, shape or location of your outdoor space, there is a way to transform it into a space you love. There are so many new, creative and fun things on the market for creating something really fabulous that you long to use, whatever the weather or season.

Here are a few ideas for revamping your outdoor space.

Reupholster your outdoor furniture

Reupholstering isn’t just for vintage armchairs! There are some amazing new fabrics, colours and patterns out there for outdoor furniture – we’ve often loved them so much we consider them for inside the home! Make sure you choose a fabric that is UV resistant, durable and breathable and you’ll be able to use your outdoor furniture for years and years.

Repaint your wooden outdoor furniture

Again, this is about getting a little hands-on and realising that there is still life in your old outdoor furniture and accessories. Buy a nice all-weather, durable paint and go to town on your fencing, your old shed and any wooden furniture you own. While you are at it, why not repaint some tired-looking plant pots? Whites and pastels are always a great option for summery spaces but scuff easier.

Add accessories to your outdoor furniture

If you don’t want to go to the hassle of reupholstering or painting, why not get a few hardy throws and outdoor cushions? Go for a fun, bright colour scheme or even mirror your living room decor to help the flow from inside to out. You’ll then want to look into getting a beautiful chest to store them in during winter and bad weather.

Don’t just think about outdoor dining

If you really want to create a space you’ll use, don’t just consider outdoor dining but a beautiful living space too. A comfy deckchair, cosy sofa or armchair or a sunbed will make you want to spend more time relaxing in your outdoor space than a table and chairs. This is especially true of smaller spaces and balconies.

Decorate your outdoor space

People often invest in furniture and plants for their outdoor space and then stop there. They forget about the little details like lighting and accessories.

Lighting is the best place to start and there plenty of new lighting options available for anywhere in your outdoor space. With battery and solar powered lights, lamps and fairy-lights, you can get really creative with where you add light and atmosphere to your outdoor space.
