Every year, we sit down to write our take on the upcoming interior trends. We like to pick those that we not only love but that we feel are easy and affordable to style in your own home.

We feel that for this year, for this 2021 Interior Trends blog, this is even more important. With everything that we’ve all been through this year, we want you to be able to create a home that you really love and that you love being in. We hope these interior trends can help make your home and your life not only more beautiful, but easier and happier too!

It may seem like a big task but, I think now more than ever, we can all agree there is no place like home…

Last year’s interior trends featured lots of natural colours and materials, as well as soothing shapes and geometry. You can check out the 2020 interior trends blog here, as well as our 2019 interior trends blog here.

For this coming year, 2021 interior trends are really a reflection of the times we find ourselves in and the overarching trend seems to be about making our homes warmer, cosier, happier places to be. And if we are to continue spending more time within our own 4 walls next year, then we agree this is the right direction to take!

5 interior trends for 2021 to inspire you to create the home you love

Colour Trends for 2021

Dulux Colour of the Year

2021 interior trends Dulux colour of the year

Last year, both Dulux and Graham and Brown chose greens for their colours of the year. This year, Dulux is continuing the nod to natural tones and we love that their message ties us back to nature and our connection to the planet.

Their colour of the year is a warm neutral hue called ‘Brave Ground’.

Choosing such a neutral base colour as their colour of the year might not seem like a very exciting 2021 interior trend from Dulux, but a quick glance at their suggested colour palettes shows a lot of colourful inclusions. We love the pairings of such warm browns with vibrant corals, bright yellows and deep blues.

How to use it: the colour palettes from Dulux are an example of our absolute favourite way to style: a neutral base and pops of colour!

2021 Interior Trend: Shapes And Colour Blocking

Another trend that is evident from the Colour of the Year campaigns is to get creative with your painting. We see plenty of colour blocking, as well as painting shapes to set off certain areas of a room.

We’ve seen so many people get more hands on with their home styling during the pandemic and this is a wonderful way to get more creative without having to repaint a whole room.

How to use it: The painted arch for a little desk area shown above is just lovely in a time where working from home is more normal than office-life.

2021 Interior Trend: Multi-Functional Spaces and Furniture

Being stuck at home had people getting both frustrated and creative with how to make their homes liveable for more people and more activities.

Whether you had to turn your dining room into a home office or your living room into your new gym, you had to start thinking about how to make your home more multi-functional.

Our best advice is to create specific zones with slight variations in colour palette and decor to differentiate each area of your home.

Storage is also key. While it take times, storing things away in a dedicated space after each use – your yoga mat or work files – will help you transform one room into another without filling a room with clutter.

How to use it: For multi-functional spaces, space planning is really important. Figure out the measurements of your room and all your furniture to create your own blue-print of how it all fits together. You may need multiple drafts before you figure out the best fit.

Texture Trends for 2021

Warm is the colour trend of the year and warm is the texture trend of the year. Think lots of throws, throw pillows and beautiful fabrics.

It’s all about making your home a cosy and inviting place to be.

And with soft furnishings being some of the easiest and most affordable things to change in your home, this is a great trend to update your home with in 2021.

International Style Trends for 2021

Last year, we saw the love for Japanese aesthetic reignited and this year their is a new love affair to get excited about: Japandi. A beautiful blend of Japanese and Scandinavian design, Japandi is all about the functionality, minimalism and emphasis on beauty that both cultures prize.

Japandi is all about mindful purchases and style choices. Choosing only what you really need, choosing the best quality you can afford and choosing what makes you truly happy.

How to use it: if you love both Japanese and Scandinavian design, then the best place to start with your own Japandi aesthetic is with a big decluttering session. This is not about ultra-minimalism, but it is about pairing things down and living in a simpler and calmer space.

If you need help with decluttering, please get in touch today to tackle your home with the help of our decluttering experts.

We hope you enjoyed our take on the interior trends of 2021 and we hope you got some ideas for how to bring a little more warmth and happiness into your home.
