The modern world of home styling is an amazing place. With people living in all kinds of homes in all corners of the world, you can find furniture, storage and decor to fit almost any space and any style. This is especially true of shelving and storage. We’ve seen it all. From elaborate under stair cupboards to circular shelving and old ladders used as vertical storage.

Here are a few examples of storage and shelving solutions to suit any home.

Hidden Storage for Bedrooms

Your bedroom should be your sanctuary and therefore clever storage for bedrooms to keep out the clutter is incredibly important.

Trundle beds have been around for decades and they really are one of the best ways to add more storage to bedrooms. Being able to hide away bedding, out-of-season clothing and children’s toys under the bed – a space you wouldn’t use for much else – just makes sense. Adding decorative drawer handles or covering the space with a throw help keep trundle beds stylish. If you don’t want to buy a new bed, then a row of large, sturdy baskets are perfect for keeping these items under the bed.

Another secret spot for storage in your bed is the headboard. There are some really innovative headboard storage solutions including headboard shelving units and split headboards that lift to reveal cupboards.

Storage for children’s rooms gets even more interesting. Styling a children’s room and making it functional with storage is in some ways easier than elsewhere in the house as you can have a little more fun. Cute shelves in the shape of houses and giant lego block boxes are just a few examples.

Entrance and Hallway Storage Solutions

Make sure you have great storage around the entrance to your home. If this area is messy it will immediately give you that cluttered feeling of chaos as soon as you walk in the door.

As you will have less furniture in this area, why not go for a statement piece? These unique A1 Filing Cabinets from Common Room Home & Living has space for plenty of items you don’t want taking up your surfaces.

Storage for shoes is also crucial. A simple shoe rack or shelving unit keeps your entrance area clean and tidy and also provides a top shelf for a key bowl or vase.

Shelving solutions for ornaments and trinkets

Remember, your home should be functional AND stylish. In an attempt to declutter, don’t throw away special items and memorabilia but find a way to showcase them without taking up space in your home. When we helped our friend at Okooko asked us to take a look at updating their daughter’s room, we suggested adding in this shelving wall to home all her old toys.

Floating bookcases and shelves are another clever way to maximise space. Elevate these storage areas and free up some floor space – just make sure you (or someone else in your home) can reach them!

Speaking of elevation, why not get even more creative with your vertical space by adding hooks and racks. This works great for pots and pans in the kitchen and we’ve even seen an indoor bike rack that adds an individual touch to a hallway or living room.

Styling your Storage and Shelving

If you don’t want to repaint an entire room, a new coat on storage and shelving can still totally change your room. Paint your old shelves with a brighter or whiter tone to help your possessions stand out. For open cupboards, you can paint the inside a statement colour to add a little extra colour to your room.
