We love new and unique home decor trends as much as the next person. Bold wallpaper? Yes please! Maximalism? Let’s try it! Shabby chic? Hm, maybe better left in the 00s…

New trends are great to get inspiration from but what we are interested in are the home styling trends that stand the test of time. We have been in the business for a long time now and there are some home decor trends that come back in style again and again.

Here are a few of our favourites…

Texture

No home should be without texture! Texture is there to create depth and a sense of comfort. Texture keeps the eyes moving forward to make sure that your sofa, floor or bed don’t look flat.  Texture adds interest and life into areas that would otherwise look dull and unexciting.

You can use texture in home styling in so many fun ways. Pom Poms edging your curtains; a rug with that extra bit of pile; herringbone for your sofa covers; a knitted throw or linen cushion covers. These are all quick and simple ways to add texture to your home.

Antiques

Specific vintage and retro home styling trends, like mid-century furniture and 1920s glamour, may come in and out of style but the trend of mixing antiques with modern decor in your own personal way is timeless.

Antiques and vintage items are an easy way to infuse your own unique personality and history into your home. Showcase some of your grandmother’s china on a shelf in your kitchen or hang an antique mirror in your modern bathroom. Just like styling with texture, it’s all about mixing it up.

Minimalism

We are definitely fascinated by the maximalism trend and, when it is done well, it can be sensational. But, our hearts lie with minimalism.

For us, minimal design does not mean empty surfaces and monotone everything. The best minimalist homes are those that are decluttered, with only the most prized possessions and thoughtful decor on show.

Going Green

Whether you are green-fingered or not, your home needs plants. Living things help your home feel fresh, as well as homely and lived in. Plants instantly show that you take time to care for your home.

The current trend is to create interior jungles but, for most people, this isn’t practical. A collection of cute cactuses or one giant plant will do wonders for any room and won’t take much looking after.

Neutrals

Decorating with neutrals is a home decor trend that will never go out of style because it is so flexible. While we love patterned wallpaper and bold furniture, going neutral on your walls, floors and large furnishings is timeless.

A base of neutral colours allows you to have fun with accessorising and means you can change your style more easily. If you are someone whose tastes change a lot or you get bored easily, go for a neutral base and then change your accessories and soft furnishings as often as you’d like!

Blue and White

If we had to pick one colour combination to stick to forevermore, it would be blue and white. Blue and white create images of the ocean – think Santorini – they are fresh, bright colours that are sophisticated and serene. This timeless colour trend is elegant, calming and versatile for bedrooms, living rooms, bathrooms and just about any other room in the house.

Our top tip for styling with blue and white is to mix patterns to create a fabulous cohesive look.

So, there you have it. 6 timeless home decor trends to create a home you’ll love this year, next year and decades to come!
